Drink-drive campaign to target shoppers
SHOPPERS are to be given anti-drink drive leaflets as part of a road safety campaign in North Yorkshire.
The 95 Alive Partnership will hand out road safety advice to shoppers at roadshows in Harrogate, Ripon and Boroughbridge over the next month.
The partnership is made up of the emergency services plus several councils in North Yorkshire.
North Yorkshire Fire Service will let people try out beer goggles to see how alcohol affects their sight.
Police officers will man a mobile police station and hand out barbecue survival packs to people.
They will also be promoting the I'll Be Des scheme asking people to nominate a driver who will not drink alcohol on nights out.
There are I'll Be Des survival packs featuring drinks mats, stickers and also recipes for alcohol free cocktails and other items.
They are on offer from North Yorkshire County Council on 08458-727374 or by email from 95alive@northyorks.gov.uk.
Councillor John Fort, executive member for North Yorkshire County Council said: "This is another good example of what partnership working can achieve.
"A lot of hard work has gone into this campaign by all the 95 Alive Road Safety Partners and we hope the public will listen and act on the message and help make the roads of North Yorkshire safer."
The roadshow is at Morrisons, Starbeck, Harrogate, on July 26, Sainsbury's, Ripon, on August 1, Morrisons, Boroughbridge, on August 9, and Sainsbury's, Harrogate on August 22.
The 95 Alive Partnership will be at all of the site between 10am and 3pm.
