A timeless picture of Askrigg (it was taken in April 1981) which leads us on to a fascinating line of inquiry.
Just round the corner from here is Sykes's House, a bed and breakfast, tea room and shop, which has a Cyclists' Touring Club plaque proudly displayed on its wall.
The CTC was formed in Harrogate in 1878 and from 1887 handed out its cast iron plaques – later enamel plates – to establishments that catered for cyclists.
