A NORTH Yorkshire breeder paid 7,000gns for the Hereford Cattle Society’s 2017 reserve bull of the year at the society’s spring show and sale at Hereford Livestock Market.
Rempstone 1 Even Money sold to M Shaw, of Kirkby Moorside. The bull was supreme champion at a number of shows over the 2017 season and is in the top ten per cent of the breed for growth rates, Eye Muscle Area and Retail Meat Yield.
The sale saw bulls sell to a joint top of 8,200gns with JRB Wilson’s Romany 1 Poseidon bought by D Manduell, of Seascale, Cumbria, and TD & WT Livesey’s Normanton 1 Perky purchased by former society chairman RP Mann, of Ufton, Warwickshire.
In the show heifer section, the Grand Female Champion, 13-month-old Moorside 1 Poppy from G & MC Shepard sold for 3,000gns to newcomer to the breed M Jordan, of Chathill, Northumberland.
26 bulls sold for £112,350 to average £4,321.15; 14 females sold for £36,435 to average £2,602.50.
