KIRKBY Stephen Mart held its Christmas prize show and sale of cast and OTM cattle on November 27, when 55 head were forward.

Topping the sale at £1,837.59 (218.5p) was the overall champion cow which was a nine-year-old pure British Blue from Messrs Lawson, Buddle House, Richmond.

Dairy bred cows: 1 & 2 SD Scott, Hollins View Farm £944.05 (119.5p) & £1002.38 (121.5p); 3 S Bell & Sons, Gill Gate £738.82 (104.5p).

Prices. – Cast cows: Brit Blue to 218.5p. Lim to 195.5p. Mont to 144.5p. Blonde to 139.5p. Black & Whites to 121.5p. Cast bulls: Brit Blue to 209.5p.

On the same day the mart held a Christmas prize show and sale of store cattle. Topping the sale at £1,355 was the first placed steer, a Limousin X from Messrs Dixon & Chappelhow, Westfield House Farm, Port Carlisle which was bought by David Barker. Judge was Geoff Birkbeck, Soulby.
