WENSLEYDALE Young Farmers showed that you can have an enjoyable day out locally and raise some money for a good cause.

After meeting up at Leyburn Auction Mart early on Sunday 45 young people from the Wensleydale Young Farmer’s Club started the day off with a bacon sandwich interspersed with some friendly banter.

Sporting their new purple polo shirts a convoy of 35 tractors all made their way to the Street Head Inn then the Hawes Mart and across to Swaledale finally ending up at the Bolton Arms Downholme mid-afternoon.

Having paid for the privilege either as a driver or passenger a raffle and supper swelled the day’s takings to £340 which will be donated to the charity MIND.

YFC Secretary Dan Dent who had to wade through a mountain of forms, telephone calls and a number of H&S risk assessments to organise the day was pleased with the outcome. He said: “Thank you to those who came and supported our first ever tractor run. It has been a great success raising around £340 for our chosen charity Mind.

“A big thank you goes to those places where we pit stopped and those who donated raffle prizes.”

Young farmers are for young people between the ages of 10 and 26 to learn aspects of farming, have fun, rally days and quizzes. The clubs are for anybody not just farming families; for more information visit their Facebook page. Any not so young farmers who fancies one can also buy a YF polo shirt from Mr Dent.
