TWO Beltex breed records were set at Carlisle last week.

Topflite Al Pacino, a shearling ram from Grant and Gemma Anderson sold for 60,000gns to Paul Tippets and Christine Williams for their Hackney and Wilodge flocks, Shifnal, Shropshire.

Mr Anderson was shocked at the price: "I never expected anything like this - I knew he was an excellent tup as he has always stood out within his group and is a great example of the breed and when he was clipped he showed his true potential."

Setting a new breed ram lamb record, at 25,000gns was Broxty Boxer from the Buckle family, Kirkby Stephen. Homebred on both sides, he is by Broxty Supreme, himself a son of former shearling record holder Dooley Napal, and out of Broxty Wispa who was champion at last year’s Royal Highland Show. Boxer was bought by Andrew Wood for his Withy Trees flock.

The Buckle family also made 12,000gns with Buckles Alright, a shearling by Broxty Supreme and out of Buckles Peggy. He sold to Henry Jewitt, Barnard Castle, who also paid 3,800gns for a gimmer, Kingledores Amelia, from Richard Wood.

The Buckle family and Harry Wood, Dutton, also paid 8,000gns for Ardstewart Armani, from Wade and Alison McCrabbe, Raphoe, and by Mr Bow Jangles

Other prices included 11,000gns for a shearlings from Stuart Wood, Aberdeenshire. Woodies Audi sold to Jim Mulholland, Great Orton, Carlisle.

Averages; 264 gimmers £840.94, 186 ram lamb £1228.22, eight aged rams £1736.44, 686 shearling rams £1225.18 (Harrison and Hetherington).
