THE 2016 Yorkshire Agricultural Machinery Show (YAMS) attracted around 10,000 visitors – 50 per cent up on the previous year.

The free one day event was described as an "enormous success" by organiser Richard Tasker, an auctioneer at York mart where the event is held.

The sheer volume of cars saw all the off-site overflow car parks full to capacity as the number of visitors exceeded all expectations.

Mr Tasker said: "I think that this year has taken the show to the next level and there will be plenty of planning and work to do to accommodate the demand for next year.

"There was a great atmosphere and lots of friendly banter on all the stands; many exhibitors even commented that there was hardly a mention from farmers of the doom and gloom in producer prices."

The event was bathed in sunshine throughout the day with the thousands of visitors treated to 200 exhibitors displaying everything from machinery and equipment for farming, horticulture, forestry, precision farming and estate management.

Most of the exhibitors were from Yorkshire and displayed the type of equipment required in the region.

Mr Tasker, an auctioneer at the mart, said the most popular feedback comment was that the show was "fantastic". He said: "So many people, strangers and clients, came out of their way to thank us for an excellent day."

The outdoor stand award was won by Brian Robinson and his team at BRM Ltd, East Cowton. Highly commended were S T Gowan Ltd and Wilfred Scruton & Sons Ltd. The indoor stand award went to P B Curran, insurance brokers, and highly commended to Camfab.
