FARMERS are invited to a free meeting about a potential new multimillion pound project for the River Skerne catchment and how it could benefit their businesses.

Jim Cokill, from the Durham Wildlife Trust (DWT) will give a presentation on Bright Water – the project which is currently under development – and explain how it could help them improve their business and landscape through habitat restoration and capital works.

He said: "Hopefully the Bright Water project will be a great opportunity for farmers in the Skerne catchment. There is a rich agricultural history across the area and potential to use that to provide new opportunities in the future that help make farming and farm businesses more resilient."

The meeting, which is organised by the Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) in Yorkshire and the North East will also be attended by the Farm Advice Service who will provide updates on the Basic Payment Scheme, cross compliance and opportunities to add value to greening options.

It takes place at The George Hotel, Piercebridge, on Monday (April 20), at 6pm. A free supper is included and places should be booked through Sarah Maughan on 07432 562198 or email: yorkshirenortheast@cfeonline.org.uk
