THE National Pig Association's spring regional meetings begin in a few weeks when headline themes will be the downturn in prices over recent months and how to future-proof pig businesses for greater resilience against market volatility.

Among the issues to be tackled are NPA's Keep-It-Up! campaign, which commends retailers for sticking to their Horsegate pledges to source more British pork, and reminds retailers and foodservice why consumers really do prefer British pork.

NPA staff will also report on the recent elections for Producer Group and Allied Industry Group and will outline the association's ongoing lobbying activities in Westminster and Brussels.

Also addressing the meetings—and in all likelihood courageously responding to producers' questions about likely price trends this year—will be AHDB analyst Stephen Howarth.

The North region's meeting will be at Sandburn Hall, Flaxton, near York, on Thursday April 23 when guest speakers will be Michelle Sprent on pig nutrition and John Pinches, of Barclays, who will address resilience against market volatility and how to assess lending propositions. Tea, coffee and a hot buffet meal will be available on arrival at 6.30pm. Meeting proper to start 7pm. Predicted to finish 9-9.30pm.
