MALCOLM Corbett, chairman of the British Wool Marketing Board, is to retire from the Board in March.

Nominations are invited to take his place as board member for the English Northern region. Nigel Williams, board member for English Central, and Ian Buchanan, member for Northern Ireland are also retiring, although Mr Buchanan is standing for election again.

The Wool Board is the largest producer co-operative in Britain, with around 40,000 registered sheep farmers. Depending on the interest in each seat, elections will be held in February and those appointed will hold the office for three years, from April 2015.

Board members normally expect to work approximately 30 days a year attending Board Meetings two or three days each month, and on other local and national BWMB business. Remuneration of around £8,900 is paid annually, plus expenses.

Candidates must be nominated in writing by at least ten registered wool producers in the relevant regions who will each need to supply their address, signature and registration number.
