A TOP price of 27,000gns was paid at the British Limousin Cattle Society's autumn sale of bulls at Borderway Mart, Carlisle (Oct 18).

The 84 bulls sold - nine up on last year - averaged £5,570 with 11 making 10,000gns or more and 33 selling at 5,000gns or more, and represented a 61 per cent clearance rate.

The pre-sale show supreme champion - Loosebeare Iain from Messrs EW Quick & Son, Crediton, Devon - sold for 27,000gns to Tony Booth's pedigree Sevengun Herd at Aston, Sheffield.

The Quicks’ team of five bulls grossed 49,000gns with two further Fantastic-sired bulls making 6000gns, and 3500gns, and three Aghadolgan Emperor sons making 7,000gns, 6,000gns, and 5,500gns respectively.

Messrs Jenkinson, Clifton, Penrith, sold Whinfellpark Iago for 13,000gns. The March 2013-born bull was by the herd’s 30,000gns stock bull Lowerffrydd Empire out of the Wilodge Cerberus-sired Whinfellpark Flair. He was bought by the pedigree Norman herd of ES & E Norman, Little Orton, Carlisle.

The Norman's then grossed 22,500gns for a pen of three bulls by their stock bull, the 24,000gns Claragh Franco. Their top price was10,000gns for the May 2013-born Norman Ivan, sired by Franco. He sold to BG & E Marrs of the Elvaplain herd, Setmurthy, Cockermouth. Norman Irish, out of the Rombalds Rebel daughter Norman Violet, went for 7,500gns to Michael Cursiter for his Lagas pedigree herd at Evie, Orkney. Norman Igor, out of the Trojan daughter Norman Eternity, sold for 5,000gns to PJ Dale, Ripley, Derbyshire.

Securing 9,500gns was Millbrow Icatcher from G & P Long, Skelwith Bridge, Ambleside, Cumbria. The first son of the Irish sire and Haltcliffe Vermount son, Millburn Foxhall, to be offered for sale, he sold to PR Walker & Son, Lund, Driffield.

The Intermediate Champion Procters Illusion from Procters Farm, Slaidburn, Clitheroe made 7,000gns when sold to B O’Loughlan, Magherra, Co.Derry.

Other leading prices included 6,000gns for Twemlows Idol to DG & JA Bell, Wigton, Cumbria, and 6,000gns for Windsole Ivan to J Leiper & Sons, Ponteland, Newcastle on Tyne.
