FARMERS can learn more about grassland management and the benefits of legume crops at a farm walk on Tuesday (16th).
The Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) is hosting the free event at Acorn Dairy, Archdeacon Newton, Darlington, DL2 2YB, at 2pm.
It will look at the importance of nitrogen fixing legumes as part of the grassland system and how they can improve soil structures on the farm.
It will also show how legume and herb rich grassland can provide enhanced food supplies for invertebrates while providing high quality animal feed.
Industry experts from Mole Valley Farmers will discuss how legume crops can benefit soils and Mike Burley, from Opico, will talk about soil structure while Russell Group will demonstrate a sward lifter and have other grassland machinery on site.
Fraser Hugill, the lead from CFE, will be on hand to provide advice on all aspects of CFE. There will also be a discussion on greening and how Environmental Focus Areas can be used to benefit invertebrates and other environmental issues on farms.
Booking is helpful but not essential. For further details and to book, call or text Sarah Maughan on 07432 562198 or email yorkshirenortheast@cfeonline.org.uk
