THE man with Britains most expensive nose has received an award for his long service to the dairy industry.

Nigel Pooley is Wyke Farms Master Cheese Grader and his nose is so important to the business that it has been valued at 5m.

The company is the UKs largest independent cheese producer and milk processor.

Mr Pooley has graded more than 1.4m tonnes of cheddar during his time with Wyke, ensuring the quality of every batch of the multi-award winning cheese.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was at the Royal Bath & West Show, and congratulated Mr Pooley on his 50 years service to the dairy industry.

His talent secured Wyke Farms 15 awards and accolades at that and the Devon County Show.

Rich Clothier, third generation family member and managing director, said: "We are thrilled to have Nigel's cheese-grading experience and expertise. We have already surpassed the number of awards that we won this time last year, a true testament to the quality of our cheddar."

Mr Pooley said: "The dairy industry has been good to me over the years, I love my job and feel so lucky to have found a role where my sensitive sense of taste and smell can be used."

Wyke Farms has produced cheese for more than 100 years and sells more than 14,000 tonnes annually.

Its cheese and butter is made with milk which from their own farms and more than 100 supplier farms within a 35 mile radius of their cheese-making dairy in the heart of Somerset.
