THE world’s first expandable vertical milk cooling silo has been launched.

Fabdec says there is a growing trend for dairy farms to increase production and its Hi-Kool silo gives them the flexibility to handle up to an extra 40,000 litres.

Milk quotas are also due to end in 2015 and Lee Chamberlain, Fabdec chief engineer, said: “Should the need arise, our engineers can come out and add on more storage capacity in situ. The vertical design also saves on space.”

The Hi-Kool capacity starts at 20,000 litres and can be expanded in different multiples up to 40,000 litres.

The silo is positioned outside the existing parlour but farmers have the optional extra of installing an alcove so it can be accessed from inside the adjacent building.

Mr Chamberlain said: “This removes the need to put a lockable cabinet outside and means the milk delivery pipe can be run inside, avoiding problems with freezing.

“The Hi-Kool is not an adapted silo technology it has been specifically designed for the farm.”
