HUNDREDS of farms are preparing to welcome thousands of visitors for Open Farm Sunday this weekend.

Since the first event in 2006, more than one million people have visited participating farms to learn about the life of a farmer and how food is produced.

Last year, 365 farms attracted 200,000 visitors and organisers hope for a similar turnout this Sunday.

One local farm taking part is the Hayshed Experience at Fowl Green Farm, Commondale, which is a small social enterprise in the North York Moors.

It offers work placements to adults with learning and physical disabilities and mental health concerns.

Working on the farm helps them to rehabilitate and learn essential life skills.

They will be open from 11am to 3pm.
