CHAROLAIS females sold to a top of 10,000gns when the late David Fattorini's Fairway Herd went under the hammer at Carlisle on Saturday (10)

The herd, based at Tockwith near York, attracted interest from as far as Ireland and the Orkneys.

Sale leader at 10,000gns was Fairway Grandelight, a three year old by Uranus who sold with her four week old bull calf by Blelack Digger. The pair joined Andrew Hornalls Falleninch herd, Stirling.

Next at 8,000gns was Fairway Baseline, an eight year old Fairway Soprano daughter with her six month old bull, Fairway Indonesia by Adonis. They were sold to Gilbert Crawford, Co Derry.

He also paid 7,000gns for Fairway Geomettress, a served heifer by Artiste, and 5,500gns for Fairway Fenway, a Jumper daughter sold with her second calf at foot, Fairway Indianapolis, a six month old heifer by Blelack Digger.

Other prices included 4,800gns for Fairway Expects, a five year old Fleets Vibrant daughter, and her four month old bull by Adonis. They sold to Vanessa Vasey, Wetheral, Carlisle.

Fairway Horatia, a two year old served heifer by Maerdy Dynamite sold for 4,200gns to JR and A Mews, Allendale, Hexham.

Procter and Waring, from Ulverston, also paid 4,200gns for Fairway Dounray, a six year old Fairway Trumpeter daughter, and her six month old bull calf by Blelack Digger.

Averages: 29 cows with calves £3,932; eight cows in calf £2,205; 16 in calf heifers £2,704; 16 maiden heifers £1,598.
