A £281,000 major entertainments venue is planned for Driffield showground.

The extension to the existing farmers market building will allow up to 350 people attend conferences, dinner dances, concerts and theatrical performances – and allow the agricultural society to hold indoor events in bad weather.

The venue will be called the Rix Pavilion after fuel company Rix Petroleum agreed a five figure sponsorship deal with Driffield Agricultural Society.

The company has attended Driffield Show for 66 years and the five year deal will see its branding appear on signs around the showground.

A specially designed fuel tanker has also been commissioned to operate in the area.

The building will include a mobile stage and dance floor.

A planning application will shortly go before East Riding Planning Committee.
