FARMERS in North Yorkshire who may be suffering from a variety of problems, are invited to a free lunch being given by the Farming Community Network at Middleton and Aislaby Village Hall, near Pickering, on Thursday, May 8.

Organiser Helen Benson, who co-ordinates the Network in Yorkshire, and is herself a farmer, said the organisation came to prominence at the time of the foot and mouth disease outbreaks some 15 years ago.

“We work alongside farmers, working and retired, to help them resolve their problems which may concern finance, their health, tenancies, or relationships.

We are there to listen,” she said.

FCN also focuses on the isolation and loneliness which some farmers experience, especially those in remote areas.

It is supported by 30 volunteers all of whom have a farming background.

Mrs Benson said: “We can help them solve problems they may be experiencing. Farmers are traditionally very proud and have been stoical for generations but we want them to know that help is available.”
