AN EVENT to allow farmers to safely dispose of silage wrap and other recyclable farm waste for free, proved a runaway success with more than 50 tonnes delivered.

“Silage Wrap Saturday” was organised by Todd Waste Management at their facility on Thirsk industrial park. It was so oversubscribed that additional dates had to be created to cater for the demand.

Philip Atkinson, operations director, said it exceeded all expectations: “The first day was fully booked within just a few hours of the event being announced.

“We enjoyed hosting local farmers and were pleased we received nearly 50 tonnes of their recyclable waste, with more tonnage still to come in the following spill-over weekends.”

Farmers urged the company to hold the day as a quarterly event to guarantee them a regular Environment Agency approved outlet for their recyclable farm wastes.

The next free Silage Wrap Saturday is planned for June 7. Pre-booked time slots are available to book now. Attendees will receive a certificate of approved disposal.

Silage bale wrap, fertiliser bags and plastic liners (separated), spray drums, cardboard and cardboard cores, and plastic feed bags are all included. To book a slot or for further information contact 01845 523131.
