DARLINGTON Farmers Auction Mart Christmas Prime Stock Show was held on Thursday of last week. Pictured is the champion beast with purchaser Paul TaylorGarthwaite of Taylors Butchers, Darlington, and John Walton, mart chairman.

There was an outstanding show of more than 80 prime cattle forward fighting for the overall championship. The Stephen Aitken memorial trophy was awarded to Mr and Mrs Michael Robinson of East Alwent Farm, Staindrop, Darlington, for their Belgian Blue heifer weighing 536kg.

It realised £2,144 (400p/kg) and was bought by Paul TaylorGarthwaite of Taylors Butchers, Skinnergate, Darlington, who said it was an outstanding example of quality beef.

He said: “I am confident that our customers will enjoy it in time for Christmas. I am pleased to be able to buy my beef locally from Darlington Mart as I then know the quality of all of the beef we sell through our shop.”
