Lampkin returns to Fort William victorious, 12 years on

TWELVE years had elapsed, and 12 world trials titles won before Dougie Lampkin paid another visit to the Scottish Six Days Trial at Fort William, and the Silsden rider just took up where he left off way back in 1996 C recording his fourth victory in the old established Highland event.

Dougie also maintained the amazing Lampkin family tradition that has won the trial on nine occasions. Arthur Lampkin, Alan Lampkin, Martin Lampkin, Dougies father, have conquered the Scottish on nine occasions and have graced the podium after 19 trials.

Dougie took over on Monday as joint leader with West Leeds MC member Sam Ludgate, but for the next five days fought a running battle with Scarboroughs Michael Brown. James Dabill took third place. The Cookridge rider jumped about the leader board all week.

Yorkshire riders fared well C Pateley Bridge international Wayne Braybrook was fifth, Liam Walker and past winner Graham Jarvis were placed seventh and eighth.

Jack Challoner stormed the newcomer class and was placed 24th overall, just ahead of Askrigg garage owner Phil Alderson. Ian Austermuhle, Harry Lampkin, Ben Ludgate, Aran Drachenberg, Tom Hick, Nathan Wrigglesworth, John Sunter, Phil Disney and Boyd Webster all made the top 50 in the 249 finishers.

ñ Skeeby teenager Jonathan Richardson won the Richmond MC trial at Kettlewell on Sunday from his friend C and rival C Richard Sadler.

Eighty-four competitors enjoyed brilliant weather on the fells at Diamond Pastures, riding a three-lap, 12-section course. Garry Moorhouse won the clubman class from teenager Craig Potter and Marrick Scott Trial clerk of course Bruce Storr.

Results: Experts: 1 Danny Gamble (Beta) 24, 2 Andrew Carter (Montesa) 46, 3 Graham Tales (Gas Gas) 47.

Inters: 1 Jason Turner (Montesa) 34, 2 Mark Willis (Montesa) 37, 3 Martin Bayles (Beta) 58.

Novices: 1 Jon Chambers (Gas Gas) 39, 2 Gavin Lowther (Gas Gas) 41, 3 Simon Williamson (Gas Gas) 49.

Youth A: 1 Jonathan Richardson (Sherco) 9, 2 Richard Sadler (Sherco) 22, 3 Will Reynolds (Gas Gas) 34.

Clubmen: 1 Garry Moorhouse (Gas Gas) 19, 2 Craig Potter (Montesa) 20, 3 Bruce Storr (Beta) 22.

Youth A: 1 Matthew Maynard (Sherco) 43, 2 Thomas Tennant (Sherco) 50, 3 Billy Bolt (Beta) 52.

ñ Castleside Motor Club held a club trial at Bedburn, near Wolsingham, in County Durham on Sunday, where a total of 97 riders enjoyed a glorious day in the sun, with twothirds of the entry opting for the clubman course and the rest settling for the easy route.

John Nipper Pattinson ventured up from Teesside and took his Triumph Cub round clean on the easy course to finish two better off than John Palmer, who had dropped these both of these on section nine.

Alan Byers travelled up from Leeds and finished in third place on a total of four. On the clubman course, Carl Hollis also finished without loss, to take the win ahead of Carl Shaw.

Clubmen: 1 Carl Hollis 0, 2 Carl Shaw 2, 3 Gary Younghusband 2.

Easy Course: 1 John Pattinson 0, 2 John Palmer 2, 3 Alan Byers 4.

ñ Scarboroughs East Yorkshire Centre champion Simon Kershaw added Hull A Cs Humberside Trophy to his collection on Sunday, beating fellow Scarborian Josh Sprintall into second place.

Held at the remote Hollins Farm venue high above the village of Rosedale, the scorching hot weather had riders losing sweat as well as marks as clerk of course Roy Jarvis and helpers plotted a testing ten sections over four laps.

Joe Clements and Dan Peace were well matched in Youth B, Clements snatching the win by just two marks. These youngsters also provided best rides of the day on the tricky first section, losing two and one respectively.

Youth C runner up Ollie Kendra also went clean first lap.

Peace blew his chance of a win on number eight with six marks lost, whereas the consistent Clements cleaned.

ñ Harriet Peacock, Chloe and Hannah Richardson all make the long haul to the Isle of Wight this weekend for round three of the national Womens Trials Championship at Shorwell.

Fryups Nikita Smith also aims to score points in the championship event.

On Sunday, at the same venue, Jon Richardson, Josh Sprintall and Andy Chilton contest the British Class A youth championship. In Class B, Richard Sadler is seeking his fifth win. Jack Howell, Matt Maynard, Joe Clement, Jack Stones, Rob Waite and John Chilton ride against Sadler in Class B. The Class C and D boys and girls head for North Wales and the Bro Cader event.

Dan and Jack Peace, Michael Todd, Billy Bolt and Oliver Kendra are the local young riders making the trip to the Cambrian Hills.

Sunday: Richmond DMC Gerald Simpson Memorial trial, Wensley, 10am; Isle of Wight MC Youth A & B national trial, Shorwell, round five, 10.30am; Scarborough DMC second Club Championship trial, Low North Park, 10.30am.
