- The fourth annual show of the
Northern Dog Club was held at Middlesbrough
on Wednesday, when
the entries numbered 540, compared
with 460 last year, and the exhibition
was the best the club has
arranged, alike in point of numbers
and quality. Pomeranians and fox
terriers were the feature of the show.
The most notable exhibit was that of
the beautiful little yellow Pomeranian
"Mars", belonging to Mrs Parker,
the show secretary, which had already
won a championship at Edinburgh,
six firsts at Darlington, and
many other prizes at northern
shows.

atomic power stations could not fail
to be a blot on the landscape, and by
allowing them to be built in national
parks the government was giving
up the whole concept of national
parks, said Mr Arthur Blenkinsop,
MP for Newcastle speaking at Darlington
on Saturday.

cinema when the Zetland Cinema
closes in less than three weeks' time.
The owners of the cinema intend to
sell the building and the Richmond
Pentecostal Church plans to buy it.
For three years the Richmond Pentecostals
have been looking for a
new church building after their old
one was damaged in a fire.
From this newspaper 10 years

Hambleton came a significant step
closer yesterday. Tory members of
the district council's car parking
working party pushed forward proposals
for charges, which could be
brought in as early as October. Backing
for fees in Thirsk and Northallerton
as something of a foregone conclusion,
but opposition councillors
successfully secured a few concessions.
But officers will look into
charging at Stokesley's showfield car
park and near Great Ayton's High
Green. At these two locations, as
with Bedale's car parks, charges will
only be introduced alongside CCTV.
