FROM this newspaper 100 years ago. - Stack fire at Yarm: Shortly after 11 o'clock on Wednesday night some alarm was occasioned amongst those in the streets at that hour by a sudden flair of fire and a large volume of smoke rising from the vicinity of the Gasworks at "back-o'-town."

FROM this newspaper 100 years ago. - The combined effect of the heavy rainfall and the rapid melting by warmer winds of the snow on the hills caused many of the rivers in the north of England to become swollen and overflow their banks last weekend, and much inconvenience was caused in some localities by floods. The Ure and the Swale were both in flood, and some of the streets of Boroughbridge were under water on Monday.

FROM this newspaper 100 years ago. - One result of the severe snow storm in the Helmsley and Kirbymoorside district at the weekend was the blocking of the open race along which the water runs which forms the supply for Beadlam and Nawton. The villagers were unable to obtain water for either drinking or washing purposes, and the paucity was also felt at Norton Towers, the residence of Lord Helmsley.
