Market plans
Sir, - I refer to your story regarding
the consultant's report
on how the Richmond
markets could be improved in
the face of national market declines
(D&S, May 2).
Consultant Tracey Simpson's
reference to the Market
Hall is exactly what retired
councillors will recall was the
scheme I suggested, and costed
out, some 20 years ago.
Then there were to be shops
down each side of the market
hall, with the centre left for
market stalls.
It was turned down with one
of the reasons being that sales
were held every so often, plus
an occasional visit by Damart.
The charity events on a Sunday
could switch to the town
hall, with the market stalls resited
for the remainder of the
exhibitors.
J K HENDREN
Greendale Court,
Bedale.
