Poor comparison
Sir, - I read it's a much deserved
well done to Ingleby Barwick
Town Council, Stockton Borough
Council and Ingleby ward
councillors, who working together
have sourced a financial
package of over £400,000 for the
creation of "Romano Park". An
opportunity to give the people
there something of real permanent
benefit.
Compare that to the can't be
bothered approach taken by a
majority of councillors here on
Yarm Town Council. With most
of them elected last May (standing
as Conservatives although
many are thought not to be
members of that party - how
cynical) these councillors inherited
a project from the previous
town council to transform
the ground floor of Yarm Town
Hall into a heritage centre.
All the leg work was done,
plans done, drawings, you
name it, and funding was being
sort from the Heritage Lottery
Fund. After the council was
elected, the lottery fund subsequently
turn down the funding,
so guess what, this group of
councillors abandoned the project
without even bothering to
seek funding from alternative
sources.
Compare that with the determined
acumen from Ingleby
Barwick whose perseverance
and success stands head and
shoulders above these Yarm
Town councillors, who give up
on the Heritage Centre project
at the first hurdle, get the paint
brush out only and decide a
new toilet for our grade II listed
building is all that it - and Yarm
is worthy of.
Ingleby Barwick's success is
Yarm Town Council's shame.
SIMON TRANTER
Yarm.
