CONSULTATION over plans to close a large number of rural and suburban post offices in North Yorkshire and the Tees Valley has now closed.

The Post Office has received a huge response in relation to a number of its proposals but will it make any difference?

Has the consultation been sincere?. Will the Post Office listen?

The future of local post offices is essential. If the post office near my father in law closes it will be 6 miles and a poor public transport service to the next. A weekly mobile service is not enough. Loss of the Post Office in Swainby is also likely to lead to loss of the only shop. When I first visted 30 years ago thre was a choice of shops and a post office.

At home my local MP is noted for her "Bog Off " Comments to Norman Baker. She is not popular as our local post offices are under threat.
