Ambulance chiefs want to move an ambulance based at St John's Chapel down the dale to Stanhope.
Residents fear this will mean the ambulance being drawn out of the Weardale more often and adversely affecting response times for incidents in the upper Dale.
A public meeting in St John's Chapel was told the plans are mooted by the North-East Ambulance Service which wants to improve response times in the more densely populated areas of County Durham.
