Sir, – Further to the letter from Len Shepherd (D&S, May 25), while I am married to town councillor Andrew Waites, I want to remind Mr Shepherd that despite being a woman, I am entitled to my own opinion and free to express it.

I have no affiliation to Leyburn Town Council other than to see and commend the excellent work it does.

When my views differ from that of the town council, I make representation at the council meetings to air my views – perhaps Mr Shepherd should try it sometime.
