In the diary

Sir, – I am very grateful to Nicholas Rhea in reminding me of the anniversary of the death of James Cook's nanny goat (Countryman’s Diary, D&S, April 27). It had slipped my mind. I have marked in my diary for 2022, the 250th anniversary, when I am sure a pilgrimage from Whitby to Greenwich will be arranged. It will be headed I hope by the staff of the Darlington and Stockton Times, a bishop or two and representatives from the Nanny Goats' Society; I'll be there.

HAZEL TOWNESEND Leyburn.
