No work, no pay
1:11pm Friday 4th May 2012 in Letters
Sir, – Carole Lewis of Stokesley is not alone in wondering why Hambleton District Council area forums are now often cancelled due to lack of interest or sometimes lack of business.
I think the Bedale area forum was the first to start doing this in October 2011.
So in February 2012 I put in a written question for the Bedale Area Forum, it asked: “When a committee meeting is cancelled, no work has been undertaken that quarter, month or fortnight etc, would therefore no allowances be paid to committee members for that period and are the annual allowances reduced pro rata? Similarly if a committee member is unable to attend a particular meeting are their allowances deducted pro rata?”
The short version of the answer would usually be recorded in the minutes to the meeting. But do not bother looking until the end of July because the March meeting was cancelled.
