Underground

Sir, – As a Yarm bypass route has always been doubtful, with the cost prohibitive and space to support road bridges very limited, and a multi-storey car park of any design a carbuncle in the making, an option for solving Yarm’s parking problem is a car park buried into the river bank on the Egglescliffe side, with an unobtrusive and imaginative entry and exit, linked by a bridge complementary to the Yarm architecture.

This could house all workers’ and long stay vehicles. This would leave the High Street for short-stay only, giving all businesses greater potential for survival.

Yarm will find it very difficult to survive as it is without a radical solution. Let’s “bury” the car park, not, “bury our heads in the sand” any longer.

R OLOMAN Springhill Grove, Ingleby Barwick.
