Sir, – I trust that the residents of Swainby and Osmotherley are not holding their breaths regarding the reopening of their post offices (DST, Jun 19).

Here in Eaglescliffe, we lost our sole post office six months ago and were assured that everything was being done to open a replacement. But nothing has happened and it doesn’t appear that it ever will.

I would have thought that a public body would have been obliged to offer adequate facilities in this respect rather than relying on good will.
