Wary of cows

Sir, – Regarding the tragic death of vet, Liz Crowsley, who was trampled to death by cows.

I witnessed an upsetting scene while fishing one night at Carthorpe ponds. In the field at the side of the ponds were several moorhens. Suddenly I heard the cows making strange bellowing sounds. When I went to investigate what was happening, I saw the cows kicking and stamping on one of the moorhens till there was nothing left of it.

I have always been wary of cows and would not go across open fields without an escape route.
