Sir, – Which annual event was the sports minister recently praising when he said that it “gives an opportunity for all the misconceptions to be put to one side and also gives people the chance to understand that this is a sport than can be for everybody”?

Surprisingly, for some, it was National Shooting Week which runs from May 23-31.

Shooting is one of the most rewarding Olympic and Paralympic sports, where gender, age and disability are no barriers to success. Newcomers will receive a warm welcome from the organisers of more than 200 public open days taking place across the nation.
