ONCE again, I am appalled by the apathy demonstrated by the people of North Yorkshire, 65 per cent of whom could not be bothered to vote in the recent local elections. Are they so disinterested in how their area is governed?

The anonymous quote – “it can feel like a waste of time” – at the end of your article headlined “Conservatives add ten seats to council majority” (D&S Times, May 12), does not in any way excuse those 65 per cent for not voting.

It must be concluded that they are perfectly happy with the composition of North Yorkshire County Council and, in any case, “he who does not vote, has no right to complain”.

What a sorry state of affairs.
