IN reply to Trevor Nicholson’s letter (D&S Times, Mar 24), he should be aware that there are many forms of democracy and ours is the simplest.

As Mr Nicholson says, those with the most votes wins, no matter how many votes are cast.

Other countries have different rules with different safeguards built into them.

The tactics used by politicians of both sides in the Brexit referendum largely concerned fear. Even after the vote, when Theresa May was asked what Brexit meant, she said “Brexit means Brexit” and could not elaborate further. She had not got a clue.

Today after nine months of careful thought, they are arguing how much money we will have to pay to the EU. Some say nothing and others say £50bn.

Our model of democracy is used to resolve the troubles in Northern Ireland and Iraq and many other countries with disastrous results.

We should be recruiting competent Members of Parliament to resolve issues like prisons, the NHS, Heathrow airport’s third runway and the problems in education, to name but a few. If they cannot resolve these issues, what chance do they have with Brexit?
