UP on the Roof at Yarm School’s Alexandra Auditorium last week was fantastic. Brian Dales and his group Sweet Baby James played the songs of Carole King and James Taylor to an almost full house of about 650 people.
The concert was in aid of prostate cancer robotic surgery at James Cook University Hospital.
I would like to thank the main sponsors Alastair Powell of The Keys in Darlington and Yarm and AV Dawson who contributed through the Philanthropic Society.
I should also thank the staff of Cleveland Cable who raised £500 through internal raffles and Stockton Rotary which contributed £250.
Through the generous support of the sponsors and all the people who attended, the night raised in excess of £10,000.
Dave Chadwick, consultant urologist at the hospital, thanked the sponsors and the Rotary clubs and explained the way in which the new surgical techniques are significantly improving results in surgery.
The music was great. The audience enjoyed the tunes and my ears were ringing the next morning – ah, is that a title for a new song?
Joe Guerin, president, Middlesbrough Erimus Rotary Club
