HOW on earth does anyone manage to speed through Skeeby? Is that what the wrecked cars piled at either end of the village have been doing? Or is it all the vehicles with wide wheelbases that are not affected by the humps?

The suspension on my car is now shot – you should see the length of the form, and all the questions on it, as I try to claim compensation and insurance for it. So it is best to avoid Skeeby, if possible – is there any chance of a bypass?

Having been to Northallerton a few times lately, I have been impressed at Mortonon-Swale by the two flashing matrix boards that keep traffic at 30mph without the use of any humps. If it works in Morton, with maybe more traffic than Skeeby, why can it not be the answer instead of the humps?

From reading Skeeby parish council minutes, it seems the people would now prefer the humps removed.

I have 53 years of motoring under my belt and I’m afraid I’ve collected a few speeding tickets but I can confirm that if the culprits were caught on camera, fixed or mobile, and fines and points dished out, then drivers would start to get the message about obey the limits. It worked for me!

One day, my fellow motorists, we WILL overcome the humps.
