AS we witness the spiral of chaos in the health service, why doesn’t the Government realise that, although throwing cash at the problem is not the total solution, some more cash would help alleviate some of the causes.

The next question, of course, is “where will it come from?”

The obvious source is the Foreign Aid budget which last year spent £12.2 billion, much of which went into the pockets of corrupt and despotic governments. This is not just my point of view but that of an auditor’s report.

Even in this country the levels of fraud and corruption for departments like Revenue and Customs is high. It admits that three per cent of its budget is lost through fraud and the Department for Work and Pensions puts its fraud losses at 0.7 per cent.

That means hundreds of millions of pounds per year.

So why not remove this corruption and stop aid, apart from disaster relief, and use the money for the social and medical needs of the UK population?

It will not solve all the NHS problems or our social care issues but it will go a long way to helping.
