I WAS delighted to read in Malcolm Warne’s Eating Out feature (D&S, Jan 20) a wonderful commendation for Northallerton Street Angels.
It is indeed the case that if you need assistance while enjoying the night time economy on a Saturday night in Northallerton, we are there to help – not only providing alternative footwear but also basic first aid and reassurance for people separated from friends, or offering protection if people find themselves alone and vulnerable.
However, it needs to be stressed that Northallerton Street Angels is not just the preserve of New Life Baptist Church – our volunteers also come from All Saints and Northallerton Methodist Church and non-church goers too.
Our ethos is that if you are over 18 and have a heart to serve the community you are welcome to join the scheme.
Information can be found at www.northallertonstreetangels.co.uk or ask one of the team if you meet them on patrol.
We are part of a nationwide group of volunteers which now encompasses 130 groups of volunteers all over the UK.
We have one simple aim – to show some love and care on the streets of our town.
