NORTHERN IRELAND deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness has resigned over the failure of Arlene Foster, the First Minister, to resign following the disclosure of a flawed Renewable Heating Initiative which she set up at a cost of over £400m.

This is just typical of politics.

Politicians, local or national, are accountable to no one. I remember about seven years ago your headline was “Gayle housing fiasco”, but the council simply said “we did nothing wrong” and that was the end of the matter.

More recently, David Cameron when he was Prime Minister told us we must have 24/7 hospitals, but then we were told we did not have enough GPs and that many GPs were disheartened by their long hours or were reaching retirement age.

Now our new Prime Minister Teresa May tells us that the cause of the excessively long waiting times in Accident and Emergency is that GP surgeries are not open long enough and if GPs do not extend their hours their funding will be cut.

Surely our politicians (or at least those in one political party) should be able to come up with a carefully thought out plan outlining all the problems covering hospital problems, including manpower and social care issues, and give the public a proper answer.

I am not holding my breath.
