North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Julia Mulligan
IN response to the question posed by the North Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Julia Mulligan, about the three options residents have regarding local funding of the police (D&S Times, Dec 30), I believe there is a fourth option.
That is that we should scrap the local precept altogether.
Let me explain. North Yorkshire Police are now operating as a business for profit. They keep, I believe, one third of the revenue they raise from the 12 speed camera vans that we now have. If this is not a lucrative money earner, I would like to know what is.
