I WISH to support Nigel Boddy’s letter in Monday’s Northern Echo.

For the past few years the increase in traffic on the A68 accessing Darlington through Cockerton in the morning and leaving at 5pm has become a nightmare.

This is partly due to the new developments in the West End, but also the country’s traffic levels.

Heavy goods vehicles in particular use this route from the A1 and then travel south via Carmel Road which is hardly suitable.

The simple answer is to construct a new slip road off the southbound A1 connecting to the A66 and thus providing access to the south side of Darlington helping to relieve the congestion in the West End.
