I AM delighted to inform you that following the publication of my letter (D&S Times, Nov 18) the Brough Lane bridge, demolished by a skip lorry, has been repaired.

My trip via the A1 for my Sunday paper has now been reduced to under one mile as opposed to between two and three miles.

However, I note that it was only the top coping stones and the side wall which were demolished – not the serious reconstruction that we were led to believe would delay the job into 2017.

A word of advice, though, to the office boys and girls – it is not that I question your ability and forethought but I trust that when you instruct the recovery vehicle to collect the large blue building site portaloo resting on the grass verge, it is imperative that the driver approaches the bridge from the Tunstall end of Brough Lane so that he does not demolish the bridge again!
