CAN I just say, for anyone who can’t see it, that The Edward Pease Free Library, in Crown Street, Darlington, is much more than a unique historic building which houses precious collections of books, archive materials and art.

It is actually a unique historic building which contains the very history and heart of our town.

For that reason, anyone with any love and vision for this place must do everything possible to keep it intact.

I know there have been crippling budget cuts and all sorts of other complications, but I believe that to dilute the town by destroying the very seat of our heritage is a very unwise, cruel and non-productive thing to do.
