WHAT a wonderful place Thirsk is to live, especially at the moment with a community project underway involving those wonderful yarn bombers.

As old age now prevents me from continuing to be a Thirsk in Bloomer, I am so enjoying helping with this wonderful plan to sew knitted and crocheted poppies into vast swathes of camouflage netting to be hung from all our churches to commemorate Remembrance Day.

Sitting in St. Mary’s Church with old friends and making new ones, sitting side by side filling the spaces on the nets with groups of poppies, a wonderful community spirit prevails as it does in the back room of the British Legion Club and at Meadowfields.

People from far and wide – literally – have sent and brought poppies to us.

Two parcels from Australia, deliveries from Sheffield, Manchester etc.

I’m given to believe in total we’ve had about 20,000 to sew!

Best news, as I write, the Thirsk yarn bombers have won the award for the best community project in a county awards. It is so well deserved.

ONCE again, Thirsk yarn bombers have done a great job with the marvellous display of poppies on Thirsk church and places round Thirsk.

So many people became involved helping to get the great display ready, it was good to see. A sight really worth seeing.

What will these clever people do next?

Well done to everyone who worked so hard.
