I READ that Domino’s takeaway pizza had an application to open an outlet in Northallerton High Street turned down because “other local takeaway owners objected” (D&S Times, Oct 7).
Well done them. This means that maybe three or four people have put the block on what probably would have been a popular business to arrive in town.
Now, this said, how come the council’s licensing committee has granted two new licences for pubs when there is already about 60 per cent too many pubs in town?
Why did the town’s licensees not get together and object to these new licences?
Ian R Lowry (pub licence holder), Northallerton
