NORTHALLERTON Conservative MP Rishi Sunak’s account of Prime Minister Theresa May’s interests (D&S, Jul 15) did not include the huge subject of climate change.

But it is worth noting that the most immediate and greatest danger for many nations and peoples is extreme weather events. For our cities and towns, the money which MPs have voted to renew our Trident nuclear weapons system could be better used on renewable energy and flood protection. Carbon capture and other schemes were sidelined by the Cameron government in favour of vanity projects like Hinckley Point and HS2.

Hurrah for local people who share their ideas and energy to do it themselves. It’s just not good enough for the government to ignore these needs.
