I AM sure that in your newspaper archives there will be a report pertaining to the opening of the Lambert Memorial Hospital in Thirsk in 1890. It has always been much loved by all who lived in the area (I used to live in Thirsk).
The League of Friends of the hospital raised much money over many years and in more recent times a substantial fund was raised in memory of the late Joan Maynard (MP for Sheffield), who lived in Sowerby.
The NHS should not be allowed to get away with its planned closure lightly.
Meanwhile, we hear about bed-blocking in major hospitals when patients have nowhere to go for convalescence after an operation.
