THE referendum is over and lies and fear that politicians of all sides have been spreading has now stopped.

The blue on blue fighting was simply disgraceful, then for the Prime Minister to throw his toys out of his pram and resign because of the referendum result is shameful.

Only now are we being informed of what the way forward will be.

The main opposition party may be speaking on behalf of a minority of activists but does not appear to be speaking for its MPs or for the rank and file public.

Why politics has to have different rules to the rest of society is beyond me. Few politicians can now ask the public for trust because they simply do not listen to us.

In addition to withdrawing from the EU, there are huge British issues for the government to resolve.

For example, that the world’s air travel is likely to double in the next 20 years – will we have the infrastructure to meet that? Air pollution, the upgrade of our railways, new nuclear power stations, a review of our prison system – I am sure that if we progress any of these in the coming months they will be changed when a new PM takes charged.

If that is not enough there are the international problems like the refugees and we need someone to interact with Messrs Putin and Trump.
